Trump is the partnership card game played across Guyana and the Caribbean — and in every kitchen the diaspora carried it to. Toronto. New York. London. Georgetown.

Four players, two partnerships sitting across from each other. The caller looks at five cards — five, before anyone else has looked at anything — and names trump for the whole round. Then the other eight come out and you find out what you have committed to.

Why this exists

There is no good version of this game on either app store. The people who play it grew up playing it with the same three people, who now live in different cities. That is the whole idea: not matchmaking with strangers — your table, back.

What it will do

• Play offline against three opponents, at three levels
• Private online rooms — a host shares a six-character PIN, and the same four people play from four different cities
• Cards you cannot legally play are dimmed, so the game never lets you make a mistake and then tells you off for it
• Large, high-contrast card faces, because plenty of the people who play this are over fifty and reading a phone
